Cats What are Feral cats? Feral cats are the 'wild'
offspring of domestic cats and are primarily
the result of pet owners' abandonment or failure to spay and neuter
their animals, allowing them to breed uncontrolled. Feral cat
'colonies' can be found behind shopping areas or businesses, in alleys,
parks, abandoned buildings, and rural areas. They are elusive and do
not trust humans.
These cats are not adoptable as companion animals. If kittens are not socialized with humans by the time they are 2-3 months old, it is unlikely that they can become companion animals. |
NEEDED:
Barns! The Dearborn County Animal
Shelter and PAWS frequently have situations
where feral cats need a home. DCAS has the cats tested for FIV and FELV
and vaccinated, and PAWS has the animals spayed/neutered. These cats
will be content to live in a barn. Potential adopters agree to provide
shelter, and feed and water the cats as they would any other pet.
